RATIONALE FOR BIOCOSMOS STUDENTS CLUB
Human beings are powerfully drawn to the subject of beginnings and yearn to know about origins. The origin of life is sometimes considered “the most fundamental problem in most disciplines.” Despite its theoretical significance, the field of study is fraught with fundamental disagreements over theories, methods and approaches.
Most education systems places emphasis on passing of examinations and hence are thus inadequate in their efforts to conclusively address the issues of Origin. They emphasize on teaching facts that may not necessarily relate to the existing debates on the ground about origin of life. The school curriculum cannot be relied upon wholly to teach Origin of life issues thoroughly since it only mentions them and at times introduces the topics but does not give details on the issues raised. Globally schools have established forums to address pertinent issues by forming clubs whose goals are to engage students in activities which increase awareness and encourage local championship since clubs provide an excellent opportunity to enhance learning using an interdisciplinary approach.
BioCosmos students’ clubs offer a valuable opportunity to reinforce the topics and the facts taught in the curriculum. The club encourages students to practice what they have learnt in class and to carry out further research beyond the classroom. BioCosmos Kenya Students clubs address issues of Origin of life and the universe at individual institution levels with adequate collaboration with other institutions, organizations or communities. The clubs’ short-term goals motivate the students to utilize every opportunity available during their schooling years
